Top Fortune 500 companies are finding that an eLearning strategy can help them reach productivity goals and reap a multitude of other benefits, so it’s unsurprising that now over 41% of global Fortune 500 companies use some form of eLearning.

These kind of results are very easy to explain at the individual level, because it just makes sense. When someone can set their own pace for learning, they end up learning more because they will engage when they’re ready for it. When you have the opportunity to choose how and when to learn, you are much likely to be focused.
With eLearning, training can be done any time, any place, meaning that employees can use their working day as efficiently as possible. This is a huge contrast to taking hours, if not days, entirely out of the workplace. One further benefit of engaging in eLearning during the working day is that it is contextualised within work – not located in an abstract place outside of routine. This increases the chances of it sinking in and being directly implemented, rather than remaining as a formula in training notes that get shoved into a work drawer and never looked at again. Ultimately, this all increases both engagement and productivity.
There is an interesting quality control element to eLearning that benefits employers too: it allows training to be delivered consistently, with less chance of error. It’s not only easier to deliver, with less time spent out of the office, but it’s reliable and you have control over the quality of the content – which is not the case for sending people on externally-run training courses.
Finally, eLearning is fun. It’s engaging. It’s much more captivating and motivating than sitting in a classroom-style, traditional training setting. It engages with enthusiasm and a genuine desire to learn, rather than an obligation.
This is not to say that classroom training is obsolete – it remains irreplaceable for some things, and the expertise, experience and coaching that trainers are able to provide is unmatched. However, eLearning is a vital step to embedding learning into the everyday, and its game-like structure is enjoyable – making employees feel like they’re taking a break from their work, when actually they’re investing their concentration in one of the most valuable activities they possibly can.
